I render with mp4 and use a bitrate of 20.000.000 or 50.000.000

I was surprised but I got quite good quality with .wmv (max settings) and the video size is ridiculously small compared to the quality if gives. Definitely try it out at least. mp4 is godlike as well (personally had some sound issues with it, though).

EDIT: Almost forgot. Try x264. Something like this.

Frame rate: (what you like, 30? 60?)
Field Order: None (Progressive scan)
Pixel aspect ratio 1.0000
(Motion blur type: Gaussian) <- if u want
Full-resolution rendering quality: Best

Can't remember more. Go wild and try it out

handbrake
megui
vdub
there is brazillion programs that use the same x264 encoder

https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171

heres youtubes recommended bitrate for each resolution/fps

I personally use megui and I recommend that you add at least 5 to 10 Mbps to these values in final render

Totally forgot about megui. I've used it too and I recommend it.
